The picturesque village of Vila do Bispo in the Algarve is located with its narrow cobble streets, whitewashed houses, and charming cafes at the far southwestern corner of Portugal. It is a sweet little village with banks, a supermarket, a health center and several smaller shops, cafes, and a surprising number of restaurants. Fresh fish is popular thanks to the proximity to the sea, but during the hunting season in the autumn, you can find local delicacies such as wild boar, hare, and quail on the menus.
A central point is the beautiful church from the 16th century, which is located on the eastern part of the village among the whitewashed buildings.
Vila do Bispo is the last stop before the city and the fortress of Sagres and Cabo de São Vincente, which was once said to be the end of the world. Before Christopher Columbus discovered America, it was believed that all sailors who ventured too far from the coast would encounter sea monsters that could swallow an entire ship.
The presence of the sea is noticeable with the fresh, clean air, the pleasantly mild, sunny climate and the various surf shops that are scattered in the area. Vila do Bispo is well connected with the rest of the Algarve by the N125 which goes all the way into the village and then changes into a smaller road on to Sagres.
